Abstract

In 1997, roundwood output from Georgia's forests totaled 1.28 billion cubic feet, 2 percent less than in 1995. Mill byproducts generated from primary manufacturers increased 1 percent to 479 million cubic feet. Almost all plant residues were used primarily for fuel and fiber products. Pulpwood was the leading roundwood product at 617 million cubic feet; saw logs ranked second at 520 million cubic feet; veneer logs were third at 77 million cubic feet. The number of primary processing plants declined from 207 in 1995 to 186 in 1997. Total receipts remained stable at 1.4 billion cubic feet.
