Northern forests, Chapter 7

Informally Refereed

Abstract

The Northern Forests ecological region spans much of Canada, from Saskatchewan to Newfoundland; its southern portion extends into the northern United States (CEC 1997). The U.S. component includes the northern hardwood and spruce-fir forest types and encompasses parts of the Northeast (mountainous regions in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, and most of Vermont and New Hampshire) and the northernmost parts of the upper Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan; CEC 1997; see Chapter 2, Figure 2.2).
