Abstract

Total southern pulpwood production in 1978 amounted to a record-setting 50.6 million cords (table 1). This is an increase of 1.8 million cords, or a 4 percent more than the previous year. It also is 1.5 million cords over the 1974 record output. Hardwood roundwood accounted for 72 percent of the increase and softwood roundwood added another 25 percent to the total gain.
