Mangrove carbon stocks in Zambezi River Delta, Mozambique
Spreadsheets
Carbon stocks in mangroves in the Zambezi River Delta of Mozambique were inventoried using a stratified random sampling approach from 2012 to 2016. Data include species, height and diameter at breast height for overstory, understory and dead trees, mass of woody debris, litter, and ground vegetation. Data to estimate soil carbon and nitrogen content to 2 meters depth are also included.

Santee Experimental Forest Data Portal

The Santee Experimental Forest was established in 1937 as a 2,468-ha site for silvicultural research involving hydrology, soils, and vegetation. Over the years, Forest Service scientists and others have compiled a long-term database that can now be accessed via this web portal. Our data fall into three major categories: hydrology, climate, and land resource data.

REGEN3
Windows Application
This tool is a hardwood regeneration prediction model based on both expert opinion and data from many regeneration studies. It is both intuitively reasonable and grounded in ecological concepts. The model can be used to predict regeneration outcomes tailored to individual forest stands of specific forest types.

Southern Pine Beetle Prevention Program Story Map

This story map demonstrates the variety of treatments involved in the program, depicting the more than 1 million acres treated by federal, state and private landowners over a 13-year period. In addition to the treatments, the maps show the 2012 Southern Pine Beetle Hazard-Rating Map created by the Forest Health Technology Enterprise team.

Baseliner

A software tool for processing data from thermal dissipation (Granier-type) sap flux probes. The program provides a graphical user interface for data QA/QC and establishing the zero-flow, dTmax “baseline.” Available as a stand-alone application for Windows or open-source MATLAB scripts.

Invasive Plants in Southern Forests

This app provides information on accurate identification of the 56 nonnative plants and groups that are currently invading the forests of the 13 Southern States. Recommendations for prevention and control of these species is provided.

Ecosystem Benefits and Risks
Maps and Datasets
The Appalachian Landscape Conservation Cooperative and the Forest Service Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center are releasing products from the first phase of an ongoing study assessing benefits of and risks to the region’s ecosystem services. A wealth of data, maps and other knowledge on ecosystem services and risks to their sustainability are now available.

ForWarn
Web-based Map
ForWarn is a vegetation change recognition and tracking system that uses high-frequency, moderate resolution satellite data. It provides near real-time change maps for the continental United States that are updated every eight days. These maps show the effects of disturbances such as wildfires, wind storms, insects, diseases, and human-induced disturbances in addition to departures from normal seasonal greenness caused by weather.

DATIM

The Design and Analysis Toolkit for Inventory and Monitoring (DATIM) provides four modules: an analysis tool for inventory and monitoring (ATIM) used for creating tables; a spatial intersection tool (SIT); a design tool for inventory and monitoring plans (DTIM); and a data compilation system (DCS) to add FVS attributes to DATIM datasets.

CRAFT is a planning framework and user-friendly, Web-based support system that helps natural resource managers address uncertainties inherent in land management decisions. CRAFT offers a structured, simplified approach to determine objectives and calculates risks and tradeoffs associated with different management scenarios.

Forecasts of Climate-Associated Shifts in Tree Species (ForeCASTS)
Web-based Map
Maps that pinpoint locations where climate change pressures are likely to be most intense; the maps depict future suitable habitat ranges for North American tree species within the U.S. and across the globe. Using projections of future climate in combination with the concept of fine-scale ecoregions—land areas that share similar environmental characteristics, such as soils, topography, and climate variables—ForeCASTS can ultimately be used to assess the risk to genetic integrity of North American forest tree populations.

Landscape Dynamics Assessment Tool

LanDAT can help users monitor landscapes through more than 15 years of satellite observations. Its map layers can be used for evaluating any land unit in the continental United States.

Template for Assessing Climate Change Impacts and Management Options (TACCIMO)
Web-based Application
A web-based assessment and reporting tool designed to integrate the most current climate change science with forest planning to meet the needs of a variety of users. TACCIMO fits within the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process and can be used in land management plan revision, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and reasonable alternatives.

Water Supply Stress Index (WaSSI)

A web-based planning tool to help natural resource planners and managers evaluate the balances and tradeoffs between water availability and carbon sequestration, and to support informed decision making in light of changing environmental conditions. WaSSI can predict how climate, land cover, and human population change may impact water availability and carbon sequestration at the watershed level and across the lower 48 United States, Mexico, Rwanda, and Burundi.

COMPUTE P-SLASH

A zip-compressed file with the source and executable code for the slash pine plantation growth and yield simulator whose model is described in Research Paper SO-264, Growth and Yield Predictions for Thinned and Unthinned Slash Pine Plantations on Cutover Sites in the West Gulf Region.

COMPUTE SPB-LOB

A zip-compressed file with the installation package for a new Windows Visual BASIC version of P-LOB that also predicts the southern pine beetle hazard rating. The old FORTRAN code for the original version is still available by request.

PINEVOL

This is a program to calculate the volume of several species of southern pine trees with variable specifications. This is a full Windows setup package (unzip the file and run setup) that includes easy installation, a help file, and documentation.
