Current Research

I use a variety of molecular and classical techniques to study the biology of insects with the ultimate goals of controlling undesirable species, understanding the roles insects play in forest ecosystems, describing biodiversity and protecting endangered species. I am currently involved with the following projects:

Biology of the hardwood stump borer (Mallodon dasystomus)

Use of DNA barcodes to identify insects

Biology of wood-boring Hymenoptera and other Symphyta

Ecology of hardwood-borers and their microbial symbionts

Past Interest

Population genetics of naturalized and Africanized honey bees

Dietary self-selection by caterpillars

Transcriptional gene regulation

Biology and Systematics of Symphyta
