Trends in Hardwood Net Growth and Removals

For hardwoods, growth has exceeded removals throughout this historical period, explaining the continued expansion of hardwood growing stock inventories.
While these trends are informative at a regional level, we realize that they do not hold for all areas of the South. Indeed, if we examine conditions at the level of the survey unit ( a sub-state level of resolution) we find areas where growth greatly exceeds removals and vice versa. This highlights a need to focus this Assessment on analyzing data at a fine level of detail and to look carefully at localized effects.
