Notes: For hardwoods, growth has exceeded removals throughout this historical period, explaining the continued expansion of hardwood growing stock inventories.
While these trends are informative at a regional level, we realize that they do not hold for all areas of the South. Indeed, if we examine conditions at the level of the survey unit ( a sub-state level of resolution) we find areas where growth greatly exceeds removals and vice versa. This highlights a need to focus this Assessment on analyzing data at a fine level of detail and to look carefully at localized effects.
