Short Names for Ecoregions

The Assessment and its associated data often refer to Bailey's ecological provinces by their codes, represented by three digits plus in some cases a leading "M" to indicate mountainous topography. While succinct, the codes are unfamiliar to most individuals and provide little information on the character or location of the area to which reference is being made.

One could alternatively use the full, formal name for each ecological province, but these are extremely long and quite unworkable for use in tables.

To remedy this Vic Rudis and John Pye offer a set of short names for your consideration and use.
