Research Information

Education:

B.S.E., Arkansas State University, Biology, 1990
M. S., Arkansas State University, Botany, 1994
Ph.D., University of Kentucky, Botany (emphasis on Ecology), 2003

Current Research:

I primarily conduct research on the ecology and competitive abilities of Lindera melissifolia (pondberry). Ecological research focuses on characterizing abiotic factors and forest structure associiated with occurrence of pondberry in the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley. Competition studies (intra- and interspecific) address the effects of flooding intervals and duration on relative competitive abilities and growth characteristics of pondberry and its competitors.

Collaborative Research:

Seed ecology of eastern U. S. deciduous forest species
  • Potential to form persistent seed banks
  • Seed dormancy breaking and germination requirements
Forest ecology
  • Impact of large-scale disturbance on Pinus quercus forests in southeastern Kentucky
