Current Research: |
| My current work on oak wilt disease of live oaks will be phased out as these studies are completed. My research emphasis will shift into a new area involving the development of information and technologies for the detection and control of microbes causing lumber defect and volume losses in southern bottomland hardwoods. The principal research emphasis will focus on developing methods and procedures for the early detection and management of wood decay fungi, stain fungi, and other microbes causing lumber cull and tree mortality to minimize economic losses to the hardwood timber industry. |
Collaborative Research: |
| I am interested in collaborative work to examine the interactions between hardwood silvicultural practices, wildlife management practices, recreational policies for forest use, as well as the incidence of major biotic components such as hardwood borers and insect vectors of pathogenic microbes in the forest, and their impacts on disease management approaches and decisions within a holistic approach to forest management. The ultimate goal of this work would be to meet the needs of all user groups, but also maintain ecosystem functions. |
