Research Information |
Education: |
| B.S., University of Wisconsin, Forest Science, 1988; M.S., North Carolina State University, Entomology (co-major Forestry), 1994 |
Current Research: |
| My current interests include the broad areas of plant-insect interactions, insect behavior and the application of basic biological and ecological factors in developing management schemes for forest biota.Currently I have projects that: examine the effect of oleoresin flow and chemistry on pine resistance to bark beetles; evaluate the role of behavior-modifying chemicals in host selection by bark beetles; examine the role of visual cues in host selection by bark beetles; relate visual responses of bark beetles to other host selection behaviors; relate fire injury to subsequent bark beetle behavior; and seek to improve our ability to protect trees from bark beetle attack without traditional insecticides. |
Collaborative Research: |
| My collaborative interests are broad and I will consider any project in which my involvement will be useful and significant. Most of the projects described above have partners associated with them. Additional areas in which I have collaborative research interests are those of professional and research ethics and behavioral physiology. |
