Current Research: |
| Major research emphasis is longleaf pine ecosystem structure, function and processes. This includes studies to assess understory condition of remaining natural longleaf pine habitat; to compare fire, herbicides and mechanical systems for restoration of long unburned xeric longleaf pine sites; to develop techniques for re-establishment of wiregrass; and to determine impact of small scale disturbance from lightning in longleaf pine communities. Other work focuses on gap dynamics and regeneration of longleaf in openings created by lightning, and the long-term dynamics of snags and coarse woody debris in longleaf pine stands. |
Collaborative Research: |
| Structure and function of southern pine ecosystems, nutrient cycling, fire effects on vegetation, and old growth attributes and functions. |
