Current Research:

Large-scale aspects of coldwater fisheries; regional fish distribution and abundance and the factors that affect these distribution patterns; relationship between riparian forests and coldwater stream fisheries; biotic and abiotic response to addition of large woody debris to a mountain stream; developing The Encyclopedia of Southern Appalachian Forest Ecosystems.

Collaborative Research:

Incorporation of coldwater stream fisheries research in ecosystem management projects; linkages between terrestrial watershed processes and stream habitat; effects of large scale perturbations (e.g., acid rain, global warming) on coldwater fisheries; development of models to accomplish linkages, especially in a GIS environment; development of monitoring tools and programs; Southern Appalachian CCT; Wetland and Riparian Zone CCT; Landscape and Regional Integrated Assessment CCT; Inventory and Monitoring CCT.
