Current Research:

The laboratory is capable of performing a wide range of chemical and physical analyses on soil, plant tissue, and water samples collected from numerous research studies.

These analyses allow for the examination of soil chemistry, plant nutrition, nutrient cycling, decomposition and other aspects of the ecology of the southern pine forests.

Soil samples are taken from the surface and the soil profile. Plant tissues are sampled from trees (needles, branches, wood, bark, and roots), biomass (woody and herbaceous plants), and the forest floor. Water samples are collected from through-fall and coarse woody debris runoff. Sampling begins before a study is installed and continues for the duration of the study.
