Research Information |
Education: |
BS, University of Michigan, Biology MS, Clemson University, Environmental Chemistry PhD, Michigan State University, Soil Chemistry |
Current Research: |
| My current research is focused on soil changes caused by prescribed fire. At the Osceola National Forest (Florida), I am working with Mac Callaham and John Stanturf to document and interpret changes in Spodosol (podzol) profile development caused by prescribed fire. I am also working with John Stanturf to measure the amount of charcoal (“black carbon”) in the soils of the Osceola and other sites. |
Collaborative Research: |
| My collaborative research involves determining the emissions of mercury from prescribed fires in the southeastern United States. Because most mercury in forests is found in soil, we will estimate emissions by sampling soils immediately before and after fires, and by comparing mercury storage in soils with different fire histories. Co-investigators are Mac Callaham, John Stanturf, and Tom Waldrop. Cooperators include S. Knight Cox (Clemson Experimental Forest, South Carolina) as well as personnel from the National Forests in the southeastern United States. |
