Research Information

Education:

Southern Illinois University Forestry, B.S., 1974; VPI, Forest Biology, M.S., 1976; Utah State University, Forest Ecology, Ph.D., 1988

Current Research:

Past projects examined temperate recalcitrant seeds for measurable physical and chemical changes that may occur when seeds are subjected to desiccation, aging, long-term storage, or prolonged exposure to natural conditions. We used FT-IR, GC, and DSC to examine lipid, carbohydrate, and protein fractions of seeds for deterioration over time. Current research focuses on restoration of longleaf pine (Pinus palustris), longleaf pine silvopasture, and seed bank ecology of pondberry (Lindera melissifolia).

Collaborative Research:

Longleaf pine restoration, longleaf pine silvopasture, seed storage and dormancy, biochemical evaluations of intact seeds or pollen, reproductive biology of trees and shrubs.
