Diagnosing Trouble Spots Caused by an Irrigation System

Informally Refereed

Abstract

I discuss a testing procedure to determine the water distribution pattern of a sprinkler irrigation system and steps that may be taken to improve uniformity of application. All irrigation systems require testing and maintenance to assure that water application is as uniform as possible. Even new systems installed to a manufacturer's specifications should be "field tested" before use on a crop (Landis 1989).
