| Description: |
Arkansas forests supplied more than 516 million cubic feet of roundwood to forest industries in 1977. This is an increase of 15 percent since 1971 and an increase of 32 percent over the 1968 harvest. Softwoods, mainly pine, made up almost three-fourths of the total. Sawlogs and pulpwood were the major products, accounting for 88 percent of the harvest. Veneer logs added over 9 percent, and poles made up more than half of the remainder (fig. 1). A total of 473 primary wood using plants were in operation. |
