Tapping into the Forest Management Assistance Programs

Abstract

Use of federal and state forest management assistance programs can enable nonindustial private forest owners to reduce their management expenses and practice better stewardship. This paper summarizes six federal and twelve state assistance programs available to owners in the North Central states. It also describes how to calculate the amount of a government consemation cost-share payment that can be excluded from the recipient's gross income for federal income tax purposes.
