Description: To establish manmade poplar (Populus spp.) clonal forests for industrial uses, two requirements must be met. First, forests must have high yield;and second, wood fibers must have specific mechanical properties. For example, both fiberboard and plywood require fibers with a certain stiffness and strength. In fact, fiber characteristics are closely related to the fiber?s crystalline intensity (CrI%) (Yingtian 1982).
