Subregions in the SFFP
The SFFP study area has six subregions: Appalachian/Cumberland, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, Mississippi Alluvial Valley, Mid-South, and Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands

The Southern Forest Futures Project will address changes and resources anticipated in the Southern United States. For purposes of the Project, this will cover the area from Texas and Oklahoma east through Virginia and Florida and including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Forecasted changes will be estimated as finely as possible across this entire area and then passed to subregional teams for further analysis. The Project has identified six subregional areas and associated teams:

  • Southern Appalachians and Cumberland Plateau
  • Piedmont
  • Coastal Plain
  • Mississippi Alluvial Valley
  • Mid-South
  • Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
