Papers and posters will be published as a Southern Research Station General Technical Report. The deadline for submission of manuscripts is 31 December 1999. Authors of presented papers must submit a complete paper. Poster presenters may submit a complete paper or a one-page research summary. However, abstracts by themselves will not be published. Manuscripts should be submitted to Dr. Jim Guldin, USDA Forest Service, Southern Research Station, P.O. Box 3516 UAM Station, Monticello R 71656-3516.

• Page limit: nine typeset pages, including tables and figures. This limit equates to approximately 15 single-spaced pages (including tables and figures).
• Manuscripts must be submitted as an original paper in hardcopy and electronic format. Use MS Word software; submit the electronic copy using 3.5-inch diskettes, formatted for an IBM (or compatible) computer.
• Manuscripts should receive a minimum of two peer reviews for clarity, grammar, and content before submission.
• Each manuscript will be edited for style by the Southern Research Station. If the author fails to comply with these instructions, this job will become very time consuming, and the publication date will be delayed.
• All text in the manuscripts should be single-spaced and in single-column format using 10-point Courier font, and tables should be in 9-point Courier font. Use 1-inch margins. Use only one space after all punctuation.
• English or metric units may be used. However, use either one or the other unit, not both. Most attendees will be practicing field professionals, and thus more likely to relate to English rather than metric units.
