Technical Assistance Visits
Forest Service Research Work Units like this one organize their activity around a Research Work Unit Description which describes specific problems areas in which the Unit will conduct research. This Description with its problem areas is revised every five years through a process called a Technical Assistance Visit where key users of our research are brought in along with relevant Forest Service leadership to review past accomplishments, current capabilities, and future research directions. The Technical Assistance Visit held in November 2003 helped form the current Research Work Unit Description which became official in February 2004. The problem areas defined in this document will guide our research for the next five years.
