September: The summer doldrums are officially over for this site with a startling 70% increase in hits per day over August, July and June. While return to school might account for some of the increased activity, visits from education domains still make up a relatively minor share of the total. The September jump appears to be a continuation of one seen last month--the addition and promotion of our timber price pages. These pages made up four of our five most popular pages. Scanning further down the list of most popular pages suggests that some visitors were stopping to check related pages on our site despite the page's main focus of routing visitors to resources on other web sites.
Visits of greater than one page increased substantially, especially with the most lengthy visits. Much of the increase in visits was from search engines, with "price" part of the top three search terms. Increased activity was not entirely due to the price pages, referrals from search engines rose in general with visitors seeking information on "conjoint analysis," "logistic regression" and "capital budgeting techniques" to name a few.
This month's activity bested our previous record set in May, a jump fueled by the draft RPA 2000 Timber Assessment presentations. Keyed to a round of public presentations that month, the addition doubled the number of web pages on our site, but that content is of temporary relevance--the draft content will shortly be replaced by a final version on a different site.
