February: The big news this month is the 20% increase in visitation over January. Apparently, much of that increased interest came from educational domains, with government visitors also increasing disproportionately. The increase is all the more remarkable because for reasons not yet clear we and many other Forest Service sites were dropped from the Forest Service's Compass search index. We're working on getting back on that index, in January it was our sixth largest referrer.
March: This month saw a 15 to 20 percent increase over February's visitation rates. In contrast to last month, that increase was not due to education domains but to other groups. The home page made up a decreasing share of page views indicating visitors are jumping directly into content, a good sign and one consistent with the continued increase in referrals from the major search engines. Note that we still are operating without referrals from the Forest Service's Compass search index. The other big event this period is the transfer of our web site to an improved server, explaining the sudden drop off in visits at the end of the month and the odd cut-off date.
