Southern Timber Supply

Description:
The work unit has participated in a number of studies that examine the evolving supply situation for timber in the South. This research has coupled FIA inventories with timber market assessments to gauge where timber is becoming relatively scarce in the region. While until the 1980's the South was viewed largely as a "wood basket," the results of these studies indicate that southern timber is not inexhaustible and highlights the need for additional research that explicitly examines how various factors will impact the region's forests.
