Filipino farmers' investments in soil conservation resulting from agro-forestry are analyzed with a three-stage bioeconomic framework. Econometric analysis of household survey data relates changes in soil quality to agricultural profitability. Although agro-forestry generates positive quasi-rents associated with soil conservation, it also imposes additional opportunity costs.
