  <title>Testing Revegetation Methods in Experimental Restorations of Coastal Plain Depressional Wetlands</title>
  <link>http://www.srs.fs.usda.gov/cbhr/posters/2007/dsd_AllScientistMtg2007.pdf</link>
  <description>
(Poster for Southern Research Station's All Scientist Meeting.) At the Savannah River Site, SC, the multi-investigator “Carolina Bays Restoration Project” tested approaches for restoring small depressional wetlands and managing adjacent upland forest buffers. In 16 forested depressions that had been drained and disturbed historically, surface drainage ditches were plugged to re-establish natural ponding, and successional forest was harvested to open the sites for revegetation. Our studies evaluated the effectiveness of “passive” revegetation
(natural recruitment from seed banks or dispersal) and tested planting success for selected wetland species (baldcypress, swamp tupelo, wetland grasses). Other investigators have studied responses of various fauna to the restored habitats.

  <title>Beta Diversity and Faunal Homogenization of Southern U.S. Fishes</title>
  <link>http://www.srs.fs.usda.gov/cbhr/posters/2007/mlw_AllScientistMtg2007.pdf</link>
  <description>
Poster for Southern Research Station's All Scientist Meeting. The poster addresses
such questions as...
Is the native fish fauna ‘beta diverse’ (i.e., highly spatially distinct and structured)?
Are decreases in beta diversity from fish transplants detectable?
Is native species density related to numbers of transplanted fishes?

  <description>
Poster prepared for the Southern Research Station's All Scientists Meeting, January 2007.
Illustrates Susie's work in fish ecology, crayfish, and aquatic community ecology, plus her
interest in future collaborations dealing with terrestrial-aquatic interactions and ecosystem
interactions with crayfish.
