Eisenbies begins October 1, 2007 as a Research Hydrologist at the Center for Bottomland Hardwoods Research and will be located in the forestry school on the campus of Mississippi State University. Dr. Eisenbies completed his Ph.D. degree in forestry in 2004 at Virginia Tech, where he also received his B.S. degree (in forestry and wildlife). Mark's Master's degree in soil science is from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Mark is no stranger to the Southern Research Station having worked for the Center for Forested Wetlands Research, Charleston, S.C. from 1996 to early 2000, when he decided to go back to school for his Ph.D. Mark will be researching issues related to the hydrology of lowland forests and landscapes in the Mississippi Alluvial Floodplain, and other associated systems. Dr. Haag's research program has made valuable contributions to our knowledge of mussel ecology, most notably in the following five areas: population dynamics of freshwater mussels, fish hosts and reproductive biology of freshwater mussels, life histories and community ecology of freshwater mussels, sampling methods for freshwater mussels, and biochronology of shell rings in freshwater mussels. Dr. Bryant is transferring from Juneau, AK where he has been a Research Fisheries Biologist with the Aquatic and Land Interactions Program of the Pacific Northwest Research Station, US Forest Service. Buck is a native of Maine, with an undergraduate degree from the University of Maine, Orono, and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington, Seattle. Dr. Bryant will be joining the Center staff in Stoneville on June 25, 2007 and will study the fisheries of streams and rivers in the Mississippi Alluvial floodplain. Among the 22 people involved are SRS (or former SRS) scientists Christopher Barton, John Kilgo, and CBHR's own Diane De Steven. This nomination document contains details about the project along with several before and after pictures of the restored bays. Compass, the Southern Research Station's quarterly science magazine, will feature articles highlighting some of Dr. De Steven's and Dr. Kilgo's research on this project in their next issue.
