Recreation and Wildlands

You don't have to go far to be in forest settings--even from large cities.  Determining the outdoor recreation needs and preferences of urban Americans is an important part of our research program.  Sociologists and outdoor recreation planners are a few of the professionals who conduct this type of research.

SRS-4901, Assessing Trends, Values, and Rural Community Benefits from Outdoor Recreation and Wilderness in Forest Ecosystems.  The unit applies research theory and methodology to assessments of outdoor recreation and wilderness, with emphasis on supply-and-demand trends, economic values, and benefits to rural communities.
