A pine forest in Arkansas Nestled in the shortleaf pine-covered Ouachita Mountains and Ouachita National Forest, the Hot Springs Convention Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas, will serve as the host of the 15th Biennial Southern Silvicultural Research Conference. Held on November 17-20, 2008, the conference will consist of concurrent technical sessions, a poster session, and optional field trip.

On-site registration can begin the afternoon of Monday, November 17 at the Convention Center Grand Lobby, and concurrent sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18 and 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19. There will also be a poster session with authors present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening (posters will be up during the rest of the meeting, but the authors may not be present). Refreshments will be available at scheduled breaks, and lunch will be served on-site both Tuesday and Wednesday.

An optional field tour will be offered on Thursday, November 20, with destination and specific schedule to be detailed later. Transportation and lunch will be provided with the tour, and a separate registration fee will be charged to cover these expenses. November weather in Arkansas can range from warm, sunny days to cool, rainy weather, so dress appropriately for the tour!

A large block of rooms has been reserved at the government rate for Hot Springs at the Embassy Suites Hotel, located immediately adjacent to the Convention Center. Attendees are strongly encouraged to stay at this location, which is easy walking distance to the meeting and the restaurants and attractions of downtown Hot Springs.

Student Competition:

We will be having a student competition for best paper and best poster, with prizes awarded to the winners. To enter this contest, please identify yourself as a willing participant in the student competition in the check-box on the registration form. To be eligible, the student must be presenting and should not have won this prize in any previous year.
