Education:  B.S., The University of the South, Natural Resources, 1988; M.S., Clemson University, Forestry (Landscape Ecology) 1993; Ph.D., N.C. State University, Forestry (Policy) 1999.
Current Research:  Analysis of impacts of federal and state laws and policies on public and private forest management; environmental law and its relationship with modern forest management practices; monitoring and analyzing new developments in the practice of sustainable forest management.
Collaborative Research:  (1) A Sustainable Forest Management Primer.  Provides an overview of sustainable forest management programs and practices in the United States.   With Karen Lee Abt, USDA FS.  (2) Southern Silviculture, Clean Water, Hooks, Hammers, and Impacts.  Examines water quality law affecting silviculture in the U.S. South and the effectiveness of BMP compliance monitoring programs.  With Tulane University Law School and the Southern Environmental Law Center.  (3) Economic and Tax Issues in the Southern WIldland Urban Interface. With John Greene, USDA FS.  (4) Is Stewardship Certification? Compares Louisiana Forest Stewardship plans with U.S. sustainable forest management standards and certification programs.  With Richard Vlosky, Louisiana State University.  (5) Litigation and the Forest Service. Examines the total case law pertaining to the Forest Service and its management of the national forest system, with emphasis on cases that were settled w/o trial.  With Bob Malmsheimer, SUNY and Ron Mulach, Office of the General Counsel, USDA.  Efforts, Methods, and Costs for Monitoring Compliance with Southern BMPs. With Steve Grado and Steve Bullard, Mississippi State University.
