The eastern old-growth conference

The Eastern Old-Growth Forest Conference series began at the University of North Carolina, Asheville in August of 1993 and has been dedicated to the recognition, location, study, and conservation of ancient forest remnants still scattered across eastern North America.  The Conference unites research scientists, conservationists, land managers, land owners, and the public around the growing interest in the rare habitats and species found in our remaining old-growth forest ecosystems of the East.  The Conference has also reviewed and promoted efforts to restore the ecosystem attributes of old-growth forests on public and private lands.  To this end, we have convened a vigorous cross section of viewpoints from the academic, agency, environmental, and private landholding communities, all united by their mutual affection and concern for the preservation and perpetuation of the old-growth remaining in eastern North America. An outgrowth of the Ancient Eastern Forest Conference Series has been the Eastern Native Tree Society (ENTS) that has its internet home at the University of Arkansas.
