Duties, Current Research, and Other
Professional Interests:
My research goals are to identify and
characterize the primary watershed processes and landform structures
affecting forested ecosystems in the Midsouth and Interior
Highlands, and to understand how forest management affects these
processes and structures. Within these goals, my major objectives
are to: (1) characterize the physical features of different channel
types in relatively undisturbed conditions; (2) determine how
different channels respond structurally to disturbance events of
varying magnitudes; (3) quantify streamflow and sediment processes
within different channel types for runoff events of varying
magnitudes; and (4) assess the effects of spatial and temporal scale
on these processes. My research focuses primarily on upland forested
watersheds, encompassing spatial scales from 1 to 5,000 hectares,
and processes that operate over time scales of less than one year to
100 years.
